Melissa Weber (b. 1959, Connecticut) received her Masters In Fine Arts in Ceramics from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2010, an AAS degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design and a Bachelor of Art in English Literature from Duke University. She has been an instructor of ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Indiana Northwest and the Hyde Park Art Center. She is presently an Artist in Residence at the Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, IL.
Weber creates abstract forms and installations from porcelain, every day materials and found objects. The display and reframing of compositional elements into ordered visual systems is central to her practice. She is intrigued by the shifting vocabulary of materials, the dialogue between sculptural elements, and their placement in architectural spaces.
